Frequently Asked Questions
-
SeaTex labels as "kelp fiber." It is a lightly processed brown-seaweed ingredient — a proprietary mix of polysaccharides, protein, and minerals — not an isolated hydrocolloid. That means no cation conditions (vs. gellan), no carrageenan from red algae (vs. WavePure), and no high-shear activation (vs. MCC). In an RTD protein beverage, where these ingredients are typically paired with buffering salts, one SeaTex declaration replaces a 3-ingredient stack.
-
Hydration: SeaTex is cold-water dispersible. Hydration requires brief high shear, then 15–20 min of moderate agitation.
Processing: SeaTex is stable through high-heat processing. It has been validated in UHT and retort (~256 °F / 124 °C).
Homogenization: Standard pressures are fine; one pass improves protein mouthfeel.
Order of addition: In a high-protein RTD, SeaTex is added after the protein hydration step and can go in alongside other dry ingredients (e.g., sugar) before thermal processing.

Yes. SeaTex delivers strong suspension, stabilization, and emulsification. At 1% in water, SeaTex builds 6,000–9,000 mPas viscosity — sufficient to hold cocoa, plant and dairy proteins, insoluble fibers, oil emulsions, and bioactive ingredients without grittiness. For plant-based proteins specifically, SeaTex has been validated at a 10% protein load (~25 g / 250 mL) at 0.02–0.4% usage. SeaTex replaces a typical 3–4-ingredient stack with a single declaration.
-
Yes. The functional pH range is 3.5–8 (per PDS), covering RTD coffee (~pH 5), acidified dairy and plant beverages, and neutral protein systems. SeaTex has been retort-validated in dairy protein coffee with no added phosphate or citrate buffer, and UHT-validated with plant-based proteins. Below pH 3.5, please contact us for bench-trial guidance.

Source: Brown seaweed (kelp).
Origin: Material origin Korea / Japan / China; lightly processed in USA / Canada.
Macros (per PDS): ~60% carbohydrate, ~20% minerals, ~6% protein, <10% moisture.
Iodine: <25 mg/kg.

We frame SeaTex on cost-in-use, not unit price. At typical usage of 0.02–0.4% by weight (PDS approves up to 1%), SeaTex collapses a 3–4-ingredient stack into one declaration, compressing procurement, QC, inventory, and formulation cost. Our commercial team can model cost-in-use for your specific application.
-
SeaTex is an off-white powder with a neutral sensory profile at typical usage rates of 0.02–0.4%. SeaTex can support flavor balance in finished applications. The texture is silky rather than gummy or slimy.
-
We work with sustainably sourced, cultivated brown seaweed (kelp). Material origin is multi-region (Korea / Japan / China); processing is in North America (USA / Canada).
-
SeaTex is self-affirmed GRAS in the US, and a dossier has been submitted to FDA for a no-objection letter. On ingredient declarations, SeaTex appears as "kelp fiber." For Kosher/Halal status or regulatory pathways outside the US, please contact our team.
-
No. SeaTex is not genetically modified — we use sustainably sourced brown seaweed that has not been genetically modified. Our proprietary process does not chemically modify SeaTex, and we do not use synthetic chemicals in the process.
